For NGOs & sponsors

How many kits does the flood zone actually need?

Defensible, assumption-labelled planning numbers for the six low-cost repair kits — sized to the real affected area, with every assumption in plain language so a programme officer can challenge and adjust it. Estimates, not procurement orders.

Step 1

Scope the need honestly

Nepal — recovery zone (the main ask)

Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan (Bagmati Province) + Gorkha, Tanahun (Gandaki Province). ~93,000 people affected (Red Cross, 28 Aug 2026) along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli corridor; homes, farmland, irrigation channels and health posts damaged.

North Bihar — preparedness zone (secondary ask)

~8 districts on flood alert (Gandak, Kosi, Burhi Gandak above danger marks, per The Hindu / News9, 27–30 Aug 2026). Not devastated by this event — position kits here as pre-positioned preparedness, not relief.

Working figure: ~93,000 affected ≈ ~19,000 households (at ~5 people per household). That single number drives everything below.

Step 2

What one kit covers

Canal / kulo repair kit

1 village canal section (~40–60 households)

Static estimate: ~250–300 kits

Gravity-fed pipe & offtake kit

1 water system (~30–50 households)

Static estimate: ~300 kits

Farm restart kit

1 farming household

Static estimate: ~8,000–10,000 kits

Low-cost drainage kit

1 low-lying hamlet / ward

Static estimate: ~400 kits

Silt & bank stabilisation kit

~50 m of riverbank / farm edge

Static estimate: ~150 kits

Shared settlement toolbox

1 settlement / ward

Static estimate: ~200 kits

Step 3

Adjust the assumptions — totals update live

Use this in the meeting itself. If a sponsor says “we can fund half the need”, slide the coverage down and read the new numbers.

Planning estimates only — validate against district-level assessments before any procurement. Figures reflect reporting as of 30 August 2026 and will move.

Step 4

Rough per-district split

Indicative allocation of the Nepal recovery kits by share of the damage, based on public reporting. District officials will refine this.

Rasuwa

30%

Epicentre — Rasuwagadhi, Timure, Syabrubesi swept

≈ 3,318 kits at current settings

Nuwakot

30%

Trishuli / Devighat corridor, displacement sites

≈ 3,318 kits at current settings

Dhading

15%

Downstream surge damage

≈ 1,659 kits at current settings

Chitwan

10%

Lowland flooding along Trishuli outflow

≈ 1,106 kits at current settings

Gorkha

10%

Homes, schools, farmland damaged

≈ 1,106 kits at current settings

Tanahun

5%

Fringe of the surge path

≈ 553 kits at current settings

Step 5

Copy-ready pitch summary

Paste this into an email or proposal. It carries its own assumptions, so it stays honest when forwarded.
